Whether you're a local or just passing through, this family-friendly restaurant promises a warm and welcoming atmosphere paired with excellent food that caters to a variety of tastes.

Walking into Shama Restaurant, you’ll immediately notice the inviting ambiance. The lighting is soft, and the decor strikes a balance between modern elegance and a cozy, familiar feel. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a hearty meal with friends or have a quiet dinner with family. The restaurant is spacious, yet intimate, making it perfect for a romantic evening or a celebration with loved ones.

The menu at Shama Restaurant is nothing short of impressive. Offering an array of dishes that highlight the rich flavors of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, the options cater to every palate. From fiery curries to milder, aromatic dishes, there’s something for everyone. If you’re craving spice, the "tandoori dishes" come highly recommended. The chicken tikka, for instance, is perfectly marinated and cooked to tender perfection. Paired with a side of pilau rice and naan, it’s a meal you won’t soon forget.

For those who prefer milder flavors, the "lamb korma" and "butter chicken" are excellent choices. These dishes are creamy, rich, and satisfying, without overwhelming your taste buds with heat. The restaurant also offers an extensive vegetarian menu, which includes both hearty and light options, ensuring even plant-based eaters have a variety of tasty choices. The vegetable biryani is an excellent option, full of spices and flavors that will make you appreciate how diverse Indian and Bangladeshi food can be.

The side dishes and starters are equally impressive. The "samosas," filled with a mixture of spiced potatoes and peas, are crispy on the outside and warm and flavorful inside. If you’re in the mood for something a bit more unique, try the "onion bhajis," which are light, crispy fritters, a perfect start to any meal.

The staff at Shama Restaurant are incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They’re always ready to offer recommendations based on your tastes and can even adjust the spice level of your dish if you’re not sure about the heat. It’s this level of personalized service that makes Shama stand out from other dining options in the area.

Many locals swear by the quality of food and service here, with multiple reviews highlighting the consistency of the flavors and the freshness of the ingredients. Whether you’re ordering takeaway or dining in, the food always arrives at the perfect temperature and packed with flavor. The restaurant also regularly updates its menu, ensuring that there are always new options for repeat customers.

One of the things that make Shama Restaurant particularly special is its commitment to sourcing fresh ingredients and providing a genuine dining experience. You can taste the difference in every bite, whether it’s the perfectly cooked meats or the vibrant, well-balanced spices. This attention to detail is what keeps customers coming back time and time again.

If you’re planning a visit, it’s worth noting that Shama Restaurant also offers special promotions and discounts from time to time, making it an even more attractive dining option. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food served, which makes it a great option for those looking for a dining experience that doesn’t break the bank.

All in all, Shama Restaurant has earned its reputation as one of the best spots in Heckmondwike for traditional Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine. • Was recommended by a friend so I thought I'd give it a try. I've been enjoying a curry for over 50 years in the heavy woolen area and I can honestly say it's one of the best takeaways I've had and I've tried quite a few. It reminds me of the Shama in Dewsbury I frequented in the 70s. I've had 5 from here and each meal was spot on. Top quality ingredients and generous portions. Well done Shama, my go to curry house from now on!

  • Where to even start! We ordered for the first time about 1 week ago. The curries were amazing! Very tasty and flavoursome. The chixken was succulent. The nann was so fresh and tasty didnt go hard during eating which some places do! The spice in both curries was spot on! The chicken pakora was the best I have ever tasted. There wasn't any oil or grease In the curry container like other places we have tried before. The portions are so generous! Delivered in a branded box with wipes which I just feel is a lovely touch instead of just arriving in a carrier bag! Overall I was blown away and so happy with the food and service. My new go to for a really good curry if you are looking for a full belly, a spot on curry full of flavour and amazing value for money get to the shama you will not be disappointed!! I'm writing this after our second order. And again the food was out of this world! Compliments to the chef!!!

  • We attended for a curry on Sunday lunch time. What a little gem of a place. The food was absolutely delicious. Honestly cant fault it and very reasonable price. Adnan was very attentive and ensured we were happy at all times, and very eager to please. Complimentary coffee and chocs to finish with, and the best chapatis I’ve ever had. Will definitely return. Thank you!

  • Went on a Monday night, so as you can imagine it was quite. We where served as soon as we went in, and received a lot of attention. Waiters where very friendly, attentive and efficient. Pickle tray was standard. Chicken tikka was quite tasty and soft. You could tell it was fresh. Lamb chops where very tasty but only 3 in a portion :(. Didn’t try the chicken curry but the meat curry was very good. Spices where perfect. Mango lassi was very thick and not watered down at all could taste the yogurt which is how it should be! Also had a naan, this was probably the softest naan I’ve had in a very very long time.

  • Food was good, the server needs to learn to open his mouth and not mumble his words comes across as I can't be bothered to be here. Rude!
